Early 19th C French Gilt Trumeau Mirror Fantastic example of a French Trumeau Mirror with elegant proportions. The carved wooden frame is overlaid with gesso and gilt, finished in gold and cream tones.

The cartouche is detailed with the twin symbols of Louis XVI, a quiver of arrows crossed with a flambeau, joined by a laurel branch, oak leaves and bow tied ribbon.

The flaming torch is an ancient symbol of life, truth and the regenerative power of fire while the quiver of arrows signifies the ability to use force in the pursuit of justice.

Further ribbon swag detailing is found under the main cartouche above the mirror plate

The original glass mirror plate has some foxing in places.
